David and Goliath is one of the most loved and known stories in the Bible as it does not only present how God moved in mysterious ways but rather how God is faithful to those who love Him and to those who stand firm in their faith to God. The story opens showing the war between the Philistines and the Israelites. The forces of the Philistines during such a war are very powerful because of the fact that they have Goliath. As described in the Bible, Goliath is a huge man and he is being feared by any person because of his might. Because of this, it can be concluded that even if people are armed with weapons they cannot defeat Goliath. Hence, the Philistines always have Goliath in their wars and battles because they know that they can easily win every troupe that comes their ways. Going back to the war between the Philistines and the Israelites, the latter was greatly intimidated by the former because in their face is a huge and powerful man that no Israelite would dare to fight back. Goliath taunted the Israelites and even dared them to find a man that will defeat him. Knowing that he is powerful, he put made a bet against the Israelites that if the chosen warrior of Israel will defeat him, the Philistines will be under the leadership and ruling power of Israel and they will become their slaves.
Now, here comes David, the son of Jesse who is a little boy and does not have any experience in fighting but killing lions and bear that threatened the sheep that he is tendering. He showed bravery when he decided that he will fight Goliath in the battle that will bring forth glory to God that Goliath mocked. Armed with nothing but a stone and a sling, he faced the giant and defeated him. With a sling thrown in the air, the stone hit Goliath in the forehead which caused the death of the most defeated warrior of the Philistines. Such victory caused the whole of Israel to rejoice the goodness and to celebrate the victory that only God enabled them through the young boy named David.
Hence, it can be seen from the story that every person will meet a giant in their lives one way or another. Giants are indispensable in the lives of every person. If the Israelites as shown in the Bible faced their giant in the person of Goliath, every single person that is living in the world today will face theirs as well. David is an anointed man of God. He was considered to be a man after God’s own heart as a matter of fact. The hand of God is upon David because of the fact that even if he only killed lions and bears, he was able to defeat Goliath. With this, it cannot be denied that in order to defeat the giants of life, one has to trust God and be in the center of His will. Giants in life can be in the form of poverty, peer pressure, family problems and drugs. It does not take a true Goliath in the face of a person to understand giants. They are the problems that are being faced by people in their everyday lives. It could a disease, a sickness or bills that have to be paid. Like the Israelites, there are times that in the presence of a giant people will be scared. People would feel that they are not capable of defeating their giants and to actually be victorious in their lives.
